The Staithes, Dunston, Gateshead, as a young child growing up in Dunston.
I always remember in those early days trying to get down on the staithes, at that time I would of had to try to get past The Excelsior Club, then along Staithes Road, but all of the merchant marine shop keepers used to keep their eyes open for children passing this way, and if caught, they used to give us a kick up the backside, a clip around the ear hole, and send us on our way.
But the highlight of our year was when my friends father Villie Kristiansen to come into The Tyne, on his ship The Sir Joseph Swan. As we lived in Dunston, we just took the staithes for granted, BUT getting older and wiser, our Heritage here in Dunston is fantastic, as my great - great - great grandfather Henry Harry Clasper was a Geordie Legend. I hope you enjoy these images of Dunston Staithes.
